Ham radio plays a key role in EDSAR communications. Despite a variety of point-to-point channels and law enforcement repeater systems, there are places in the mountains where only ham radio works. Even between searches the ham channel encourages a feeling of family in SAR, not to mention helping us stay awake on those long drives home. Between 30 and 40 EDSAR members are hams, and we actively encourage new members to get their licenses.
