Fort SAR

From Downtown Placerville:
- Take Highway 50 eastbound
- Past the Schnell School Road off-ramp, take the Point View exit.
- At the bottom of the ramp turn right onto Point View
- Make an immediate left onto Broadway, and note your mileage
- Follow the road as it curves right and becomes Newtown Road
- At 3.5 miles from the off-ramp, turn right onto Fort Jim Road
- Go 2 miles. Fort SAR is an old tan and green fire station on the right
Purpose: "Fort SAR" is an old fire station that the Sheriff's Department leases from the County Fire District for Search and Rescue. In the summer of 1997, SAR volunteers took the boarded-up and vandalized building and worked many hours to renovate and expand it. It now serves as a site for meetings, trainings and exercises.
