CARDA Tips For Surviving Extended Searches
From June 1998 Lost & Found Newsletter
These tips, pulled from the CARDA newsletter on Surviving Extended Searches, are especially useful on mutual aid/out-of-county searches:
- Go prepared to stay for the duration of the search, or for as long as you are available.
- Bring field shelter, extra gear, clothing, and food. These can be left in your car and exchanged as needed.
- Realistically assess your physical and emotional health each day. Each search is different, and some will demand more of you then others.
- Your "other" life is also a factor. If you have pressing obligations, or do not have the full support of spouse or family, it may have a negative impact on your ability to function at your best...
SUMMARY: Expect the unexpected. Each day assess your level of preparedness, and your capabilities. If you have planned well, feel fine, and your "other" life gives you the option to continue searching, then go for it!
