• Missing Kelsey Man - 2007

The subject, a 65-year-old mentally challenged male, was reported missing by his family around 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 9, 2007. El Dorado County Search and Rescue responded with a command center and 12 teams in the field.

The subject was wearing an ankle bracelet with a locator beacon, for which some teams and the helicopter above had receivers. However, due to the uneven terrain, the subject was not easily tracked through his bracelet.

A break came when reverse 911 calls to local residents resulted in a tip that he had been sighted the night before. Reports came in that he was seen at 7:30 a.m. in an abandoned Cadillac near a mobile home park. The area was searched and the subject was located approximately a quarter mile from the Cadillac at 5:45 p.m. next to some bushes by a mobile home park. The subject had gone to the backyard of a mobile home in the park and made himself at home.

Once located, the subject was identified, at first through his ankle bracelet, due to his being very shy (at first scared to talk) and his mental challenge. Later the patient identified himself and other individuals in his 'missing person' picture. He was given water and a quick medical screening. The subject appeared in good health and was not hungry. He was then reunited with his daughter in the field.

This was a rapid and successful find, after which we went to our monthly meeting.
