• Fallen Leaf Search - 2008

A 70-year-old male was separated from his day-hiking partner on October 23, 2008, while hiking on the Mt. Tallac trail. That evening Tahoe SAR and fire personnel searched through the night for the man without success.

CHP H-20 was dispatched for a next morning flyover and a callout for west slope EDSAR members was made for first light.

The gentleman was located mid-morning by USFS personnel, suffering from dehydration and altitude sickness.

The subject, having become separated from his hiking buddy, eventually found the correct return trail from Mt. Tallac but became stuck out at night and spent the night in a tree. Subject was returning to his vehicle at Mt. Tallac trailhead when he encountered USFS. Reporting Party continued down wrong trail until he reached Fallen Leaf Lake and was able to call 911. RP was taken to hospital by ambulance.
