• University Falls Recovery (F) - 2008

EDSO and Cal Fire (Georgetown Fire) received a 911 call late in the afternoon on June 23, 2008, about a young man who had traveled from the parking area/trailhead to University Falls. Subsequent hikers told the RP he went under and did not come back up.

Initial response was EDSO patrol and Cal Fire and H20. X90 (Sgt. Bernie Morton) was apparent IC on scene, with Deputy James Morgan managing communications and logistics. The dive team was called. At 7:00 p.m. a callout for EDSAR Swiftwater was made. Members from that team and other teams responded.

This is an area off of Wentworth Springs Road in the Georgetown divide.

Thanks to all SAR members who assisted the Sheriff's Swiftwater Team and Georgetown Fire on this call. The body was sucessfully recovered later the same evening. The victim had been visting from out of state.
