Tahoe Team
The Tahoe team handles at least two thirds of the SAR missions in El Dorado County, despite its small size, thanks to the thousands of day hikers and backpackers that visit every year. Lake Tahoe's scenic beauty, the proximity of the Sierra Nevadas, and the easy access to Desolation Wilderness (just a mile off Highway 88) make the area a mecca for outdoor recreation. There are only a few paths into the backcountry, however, so people rarely get lost, and most of Tahoe's calls are rapid in-and-out rescues for injured hikers, not the multi-day searches that characterize missions in the rest of the County.
